Whitney Wolfe Herd, founder and CEO of Bumble, the dating app that empowers women to make the first move, will be stepping down from her position early next year. The formal announcement was made during the Vox Media’s 2023 Code Conference at The Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel, California.
The successful entrepreneur launched Bumble back in 2014 with a vision of creating a safe and empowering online dating environment for women. Interestingly enough, this groundbreaking platform has changed the face of digital interactions by allowing women to take charge of their romantic pursuits.
Sadly though, shares of Bumble surprised investors as they dropped over 4% on Monday following this news and have seen an overall depreciation of approximately 35% since starting off the year.
“This monumental moment involved extensive thought and careful consideration,” stated Wolfe Herd regarding her decision to step aside. She further revealed plans she has set forth for herself while expressing deep respect for her successor Lidiane Jones who takes control after January 2nd.
Jones is already recognized as a powerful influencer in tech communities due to her remarkable contribution as CEO at Slack – Salesforce’s cloud-based messaging system – where she had begun earlier during the same year after completing executive roles successfully over there along with Microsoft Corporation above ten years before joining Salesforce Inc entirely later on still gaining respect because apart from previous records mentioning dedication towards projects under superintendence showing high levels optimism about taking scales ahead supporting “long-term sustainable growth model”.
