In the world of dating apps, there have been at least two similar cases reported where men were forced to pay inflated restaurant bills. These instances are creating quite a stir on social media platforms.
In one instance, a resident of Pune met his date at a local bar after matching on a dating app. He was flabbergasted when he received the bill totaling ₹22,000 comprising of items likean expensive hukka and wine bottles. His date threatened him with physical violence if he refused to settle the bill.
In another case in Delhi, an inflated bill led to a 25-year-old boy being scammed for over ₹15,000 under similar circumstances. The young man paid despite facing payment issues only later realizing that both – his date and the pricey bill had disappeared from sight.

In light of these scams emerging through dating apps, users should take care during their interactions. On its part, Bumble which is one such popular platform has not made any public comments but it does advise certain measures for safer dating experiences.
The tips include meeting always in public places; informing someone close about your whereabouts while going out on dates; conducting due diligence like asking for last names or using photo verification features: not sharing private information immediately: taking out time for pre-screening like engaging via FaceTime or phone calls beforehand and finally feeling free to politely leave anytime during awkward situations if required.
